Organization
Catherine Place is a small, well-respected non-profit located in a century-old home in the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma. Founded in 2000, Catherine Place has made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of women in Pierce County. We are women empowering women, providing hospitality, companionship, advocacy, and education; supporting women, particularly those experiencing challenges related to poverty, violence, loss, illness, and/or immigration. Position
The Bookkeeper is responsible for data entry into the accounting system and integrity of accounting system data. Duties include checking accounting records for accuracy, tracking invoices and payments, and maintaining a system for organizing financial documents. The ideal candidate has experience working with nonprofits and is comfortable relating to people of many different cultures.
Responsibilities
• Reconciliation: bank statements, credit card statements, PayPal, Stripe, gift card log, petty cash
• Reporting: monthly/annual financial reports, reconciliation reports, quarterly tax reports, occasional reports for grant or contract requirements, back-up for fundraising reports
• Collaboration: work with the Office Manager to verify donor and financial records, work with the Executive Director to ensure accurate recording/reporting, work with Operations Director to manage grant and contract billing, coordinate with accountant for 990
• QuickBooks Data Entry: accurately record credits/debits, payables/receivables, general ledger entries, back up database
• Financial: process vendor invoices, prepare checks for signature, 1099’s for contractors, business license renewal, property tax exemption renewal, State Charity renewal, State Annual report
• Payroll: record payroll by employee and class in QuickBooks, process and pay payroll costs including medical/dental, and IRA benefits, EFTPS, state tax reporting, process payroll through the payroll system in the absence of the Executive Director
Skills
• Basic accounting knowledge/understanding of accounting best practices
• Three years’ experience in nonprofit bookkeeping
• Excellent listening and customer service skills
• Effectively work with diverse people and trauma survivors
• Ability to work as a member of a team and independently
• Discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks
• Ability to organize information and manage time with multiple priorities
• Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy
Compensation
This is a contract position averaging 12 hour a month at $25.00 an hour. All work takes place during business hours.
